Restrict Stats Access for Parents to their Children

Tagged:

If you would like to restrict access to stats so parents can see stats for all of their children and players can only see their own stats follow these steps.

1. Set your team's share settings to "Most Private"

2. Add Parents to your team roster and associate them to their children. (See this blog post for more information - Give Parents Access to your Team and their Children)

3. Here is the view of the team stats from an admins point of view:

4. Here is the view of the team stats from a parent's point of view. To be specific, this is John Trava's point of view. You can see from section 2 of this post that he is the parent of Frank Kessler and Frank Taylor.

Give Parents Access to your Team and their Children

Many coaches have had to make the decision of making their team public and opening it up to the world to give parents access to the team pages. Coaches now have the access of adding parents to the "Parent Roster". This special roster allows coaches to associate parents to their children and restrict stats access to their children's stats if they wish.

Here is a screenshot of the "Parent Roster" page:

1. These "Remove" links allow you to remove individual associations between a parent and a player.

2. These "Add" links allow you to add a new parent-player link

3. These "Remove" links will remove the parent and all associations

Parents will have the same access as players. They will be able to see the roster, schedule, and stats by default. They share the same access level so taking away access for parents will also take it away from players. These types of access changes can be made on the "Edit Stats" page.

See Restrict Stats Access for Parents to their Children for more information about setting permissions for parents.

Team Sharing Options Added

Team sharing just got a lot better. In the past sharing was either an all or nothing leap. There was no way to only share stats without also sharing your schedule and roster. We've just added additional granularity to help you hide certain portions of your team page.

Heres how it works:

Set the Main Sharing Option
If you would like to set any of the specific share options to public, the team page must be public. This setting trumps all other settings. If this is not set to public, no one outside of your team will be able to see any piece of your team page. When you do change this setting to "Public", all of the sub-sharing options or section options below will have to be set to public for those pieces to be visible on the public page. If you had already set some of the options to public, they will be visible to the public at this time.

Sub-Share Options Explained
Each sub-share section gives you the following options: "Team Coaches/Admins", "All Team Members", and "Public". These options set view permissions only. Team Coaches and Admins are the only access levels permitted to change any team data no matter which share settings are chosen here.

Sharing Sections Explained
Team Leaders- Sets permissions for the section of the main team page that shows the top leaders of the team

Team Player Stats- Sets permissions for the team stats page

Team Schedule- Sets permissions for the team schedule page. This also includes the upcoming and recent game sections of the main team page

Team Roster- Sets permissions for the team roster page

Team Game Rosters- Sets permissions for the game rosters. (Note: Without access to the schedule, these people will be able to see the game rosters if you send them the link, but they will have no way to navigate to the game rosters from the main team page.)

New Privacy Controls for Team Stats

Some new privacy options have been added for teams that wish to shield their players from being compared against other teammates. By default, all team members can see their stats as well as the stats of other players for that team. Player's names are linked to their individual stats page on both the roster and the team stats pages. This new privacy option is called "Most Private" and it can be changed on the "Edit Team" page.

The "Most Private" option will remove all references to other player's stats. For other players "Team Stats" page will go from looking like the first image below, to looking like the second image below. Administrators, Coaches, and Assistant will continue to see the "Team Stats" page as usual.

Individual and Team Sharing Explained

Tagged:

I get a lot of e-mails regarding sharing. How do I share my stats? How can I share my team?

First off, there are two types of sharing: Individual and Team. Individual sharing is done by each player and they have control over their shared stats page. This includes which sports and specific seasons they want to share. Team sharing is done obviously at the team level and only the team schedule, team roster, and team stats are shared. There are only two options for team sharing; either public and everyone on the internet can see it, or private and only players and coaches on the team can see the stats.

Individual Sharing
Set your individual sharing options through the "Sharing" in the "Personal Options" section of the top navigation bar. The page gives you a few options. You have the option to click on each sport name and edit your settings for each individual sport.

The first section allows you to set your sharing defaults. By setting these you will automatically set the sharing options for all future seasons. Here is a sample view of the "Sharing Defaults" section:

The second section of the individual sharing page lists each season you have added for the specified sport. By checking the box next to the season name you are enabling sharing for that group. If you un-check all the boxes for a specific group, that group will be forwarded to TomorrowsPro.com when they try to view your shared stats page. Here is a sample screenshot of this section:

Individual sharing does have one tie into Team Sharing. If you are part of a team and one of your teammates wants to look at your shared stats page, they will be able to view the page, but only the seasons that are associated with the team you share. They have access to the stats through the team, so they are allowed to see those stats on your individual page as well. You'll notice that every name in your team stats is linked. You are able to see all of your teammates shared stats pages as well. There is no way to turn this off.

If your team is made public, your individual stat pages will not become available just because you have seasons available from that team. You must specifically specify which seasons you would like to share for the public to be able to view your stats page.

Team Sharing
Team sharing works differently than Individual Sharing. You cannot specify groups for teams. It is an all or nothing type of sharing. You also can't break it down by season. All seasons for a particular team are shared when you make the team public. This includes the roster and schedule page as well. These options can be changes by clicking "Edit Team" on your team pages. A sample screen shot of the edit page are shown below:

Remember, when you first join TomorrowsPro.com, all of your stats are only available to you. Sharing is completely disabled by default.
